Story Graphic

This was the first drawing I did for the story of a happy Christmas with my family. I soon learned that there are way too many objects in the picture and that I used too much line instead of shapes.

This was my second idea for my story graphic, but I still didn't like it. I felt that I was still relying on line and not shape. I was also afraid that it wasn't easy enough to understand that the images are Christmas ornaments.

This is the final image for my Christmas story. I like that the holly berries are easily recognizable, solid shapes. I used a thick line for the leaves so that it would be easier to see from a distance. I also think that even though there are several images they fit well together to form an overall image/message.

  1. Great Annakje! I still think that the second one is successful too. I just asked my 6 year old. I asked him what he saw and he said, "ornaments, happy ornaments, Christmas ornaments" I asked him why there was more than one, he said, "family?" You win!

  2. LOL. I'm glad that your 6 year old was able to understand that they are Christmas ornaments. Sometimes, however, I think that little children are much more perceptive than adults. I mean, I'm not trying to lose faith in my audience or anything, I just think that sometimes it's easier for a child to see and understand certain things in this world. Adults tend to over analyze things and think too hard while children have such a simple mind.
